Can You Wear Glasses on a Rollercoaster?

A day at a theme park can involve plenty of speed, sudden drops and sharp turns. If you wear prescription glasses, that raises an obvious question: should you keep them on when you ride a rollercoaster?

The answer depends on the ride, its rules and how securely your glasses fit.

Could your glasses fall off?

Yes, particularly on faster rides.

Rollercoasters can involve rapid acceleration, strong wind, sudden changes of direction and inversions. Even glasses that normally feel secure could potentially move or fall off.

Losing your glasses from a ride isn't just inconvenient. They may also be extremely difficult or impossible to recover.

Check the ride rules

Theme parks and individual attractions can have their own rules about glasses and other loose belongings.

Some rides may allow securely fitted glasses, while others may require you to remove them.

Use a protective case

If you're asked to remove your glasses, don't simply put them loose in a pocket or bag.

A protective hard case helps prevent the frame or lenses from being scratched, bent or crushed while you're enjoying the ride.

What if you can't see clearly without your glasses?

People with stronger prescriptions may find navigating a theme park difficult without their glasses.

Keep wearing them while walking around and only remove them when necessary before boarding a ride.

Once you've finished, you can put them straight back on.

Avoid putting glasses on top of your head

Moving your glasses onto your head doesn't make them secure enough for a fast ride.

They can easily slide or be thrown off once the ride begins moving.
